Proxy Servers

Proxy Add comments

The simplest explanation of a proxy serves is that it sits in between you or your computer and whatever you are trying to access, for example a website.  If you are using a proxy server, your information will not go straight to the destination, it will go though the proxy and then redirect to the destination, the proxy then takes responsibility for the destination of the packets of information.  There are many reasons why someone would use a proxy server; one of the main reasons is security, as it often allows the user to surf the internet anonymously.  When you visit a website, the owners or operators of that website can gather numerous different pieces of information about you, using a proxy this information will be non-accurate or even non-existent.  Another use of a proxy server is to access restricted web sites or areas of the internet that have been blocked by your machine, such as in a work place or a school, using the proxy you can bypass these restrictions and get onto sites such as YouTube and Facebook because your request is diverted through the proxy server.  The average person could achieve this by searching for a free proxy site; they are very easy to use.  It’s obvious that a proxy server is a great technological tool and has many advantageous uses for the user.
